Poetry readingThe Poets' Corner is now fully established as an important cultural activity for all lovers of English poetry. See the 'activities' section for full details of the next meeting. Lugdumen GroupThe Lugdumen are committed to make you discover the best places for arts and culture in Lyon and in its outskirts. It can also be the celebration of a British tradition or any other special event. This is also a way for us to meet in a friendly atmosphere and to speak in English. The new season 2011-2012 will bring forward the Celtic culture throughout the year. It will end up with the celebration of the 2012 Summer Olympics torch relay in London. Book CircleJessica Mouriquand runs this convivial two-monthly meeting to talk about a book in the English-language. The idea is that (almost) everyone attending will have read it before coming, to get the most out of the evening. Members can share what they liked or didn't like about the book, or simply sit back and enjoy the discussion! The book circle has tackled quite a wide range of styles since its inception:
See the programme of activities for details of the next meeting. Have you ever wondered what books children like? The Book Trust did a survey and came up with a list of the Top 20 Childrens' Books. Take a look at the article and see what you think! Everyone has his or her favourite book. The BBC did a survey some years ago to determine the nation's favourite book; see the results in The BBC Big Read. Take a look and see if you agree! Cinema in English (v.o.)Hello, here is Hélène Thealler! English conversation groupsThe association runs an English-speaking conversation group to permit those members who have already a reasonable level of spoken English to maintain and hopefully improve that level. The members are all French nationals and the meetings are not English lessons. The group is, at present, an evening group. We are hoping to organise one (or more) morning or afternoon groups but are still looking for a hostess (or host) to run it (them). Evening groups : Any member willing to host a morning or an afternoon group should please . Meanwhile, in the same spirit, you could contact another local association. ACT4 organises restaurant evenings with an animator who helps everyone present to establish conversations in English (see their website www.act4.fr). ScrabbleDo you enjoy playing Scrabble in English? If you are interested, please contact Jessica Mouriquand on 06 08 04 07 49. |
